Agriturismo Escaia

Embraced by Nature

Escaia is an organic farm close to Volterra in rural Tuscany, surrounded by rolling hills and woodland.
We try to live a sustainable life, made of slow changes in the right direction.
From March to October we welcome guests to our rustic apartments, situated in the original stone houses of the farm.

The essentials for a restorative stay

Eat

One of the main reasons why people travel to Tuscany is the tasty food. In every place you visit there will surely be a lot of restaurants to choose from. The closest trattoria to the agriturismo is only a short drive up the hill. In Volterra and San Gimignano, less than 20 km away, there are many restaurants and pizzerias. Occasionally we offer a dinner in the agriturismo during the summer months. Also, when the season gives us an abundance of organic vegetables. Preparing a simple meal in the apartment kitchen or eating out, the choice is yours.

Sleep

A recipe for a good night’s sleep? An evening stroll, gazing up at the stars so wonderfully clear far away from big cities. Only the occasional sound of an owl calling in the distance. White cool cotton sheets, maybe a few chapters in a book… Guests often remark that they sleep better in Escaia than they do at home.

Movement

You have one hundred and thirty hectares of nature to explore in Escaia. Why not do some Nordic walking in the forest? Follow the stream in the spring time and see where it takes you. Hike up the little mountain close by, do a few laps in the pool in the morning or start an improvised football game on the lawn with your travelling companions. You are free to move as much or as little as you want. But after a long day of sight-seeing in one of the beautiful cities an hour or so away from Escaia, maybe the only thing you need is…

Rest

You are on vacation. You don’t have to go anywhere. You don’t have to do anything. You can just lie down on one of the sun loungers in the pool area, close your eyes, listen to the breeze in the trees and the soothing sounds of nature all around you and slowly drift off.

Following the seasons

Organic, found in nature, homemade

In spring we search for wild asparagus in the forest, using the crisp stems to make a delicious frittata with the onions from the vegetable garden.
In summer we pick our organic vegetables, offering what we have in abundance to our guests.
In autumn we continue to receive vegetables from the garden and find mushrooms on our forest walks.
And finally, in winter the olives are ready to be picked by the whole family. The taste of the fresh olive oil is really special.
